This video explains how to run Material Requirements Planning (MRP) in SAP, focusing on the differences between classic MRP and MRP Live, as well as the selection and control parameters used to run MRP. The key points discussed in the video are:
- Classic MRP Run: Classic MRP can be run in both the background and foreground. The transaction used, MDBT, allows MRP to run in the background and can be programmed to run at preferable times. However, running MRP with MD01, which runs MRP for the entire plant online, can consume a lot of resources and should be used with caution.
- Selection Parameters for Classic MRP: Understanding the MRP selection parameters is crucial for the master scheduler and MRP controller. These parameters include net change within the total horizon, net change within the planning horizon, regenerative MRP, creation of purchase requisitions, daily delivery schedule lines, MRP list creation, planning mode, scheduling of planned orders, and planning of unchanged components.
- MRP Live: MRP Live is a new way to run MRP in SAP. It is faster than classic MRP when planning large datasets and complex materials. MRP Live has been defined by SAP as the target architecture, and classic MRP is now considered as SAP’s compatibility pack. This means that future features and improvements will mostly focus on MRP Live.
- Selection Parameters for MRP Live: Some options available in classic MRP are not available in MRP Live. However, MRP Live can run based on different selection parameters like plant, materials, product group, MRP controller, material scope, and whether to include stock transfer materials in the MRP run.
- Differences between Classic MRP and MRP Live: Classic MRP traditionally saved data into tables, which were used for some custom reports. However, these reports will not work when using MRP Live as they will no longer be updated. MRP Live does not use creation indicators and will automatically create purchase requisitions for all materials.
- Advantages of MRP Live: MRP Live allows for the planning of PP/DS advanced planning materials when PP/DS is used in S/4HANA. It can combine PP/DS and MRP as a single job, a feature not available in classic MRP. MRP Live is also faster than classic MRP when planning large datasets and complex materials.
